In the early 1970’s I had a problem that required medical attention, so I went to the Cleveland Clinic Hospital which was considered to be one of the most prestigious hospitals in America. I was treated for about a year and was given various types of antibiotics. One day my physician came to me and said “today we’re going to give you the strongest antibiotic that we have. You can drink alcohol, or whatever, and it will not affect the antibiotic”. Having just turned twenty-one and being told that in spite of my illness I could still drink beer, I welcomed the opportunity. When I asked the doctor if this was going to cure me, he laughed and said “it will not cure you, but it will select a problem and push it off into the body somewhere so that it no longer remains a problem”.

I immediately thought about two aunts who, when I was younger, bruised their hips by being hit with a door handle. They both were in their seventies, both were hospitalized, and both died in three days. The cause of death was septicemia (blood poisoning). Both had apparently been poisoned by their own bodies after years of taking in all types of drugs. Suddenly these toxins were released into the bloodstream, and as I said, they each died within three days.

Every month after my treatment at the hospital my condition would alleviate itself and then come back. The next month however, after being told by the doctor that the medicine would just push the condition off somewhere into my body where it would not be a problem, the condition came back on the opposite side of the body.

Thus began my journey into pursuing natural, holistic approaches. I had been talking to some friends for over a year about taking enemas and doing internal cleansing – which I was reluctant to do. But after the event in the hospital with the doctor laughing and telling me that the antibiotic would not cure me, I decided it was time to try a new way.

I took several enemas, ate pumpkin seeds and some hard-boiled eggs and my condition went away. You should know that in addition to taking the antibiotics, I allowed these doctors at the clinic to inject me with a new serum they were working on dealing with the prostate. To this day, the only things I have to show for their treatments are two holes in my groin area where incisions were made to insert needles and inject the very thick serum.

In my early studies I was led off to the world of herbal medicine and internal cleansing, breathing, meditation, tai chi and Edgar Cayce remedies. I learned a lot of different ways that healing can be accomplished naturally in the human body and how great a role the person’s emotions play in their healing process.

In the mid-1970’s I was introduced to tai chi. This proved to be a turning point in my life. My tai chi teacher, Sung Kai, who was a very highly placed top level instructor, informed us he taught tai chi from an energetic standpoint and if we wanted to learn more about the energy of the body that we should study acupuncture. At the time I was an electronics engineer and could relate to the acupuncture points which reminded me quite a bit of the circuitry of an electronic board.

We were taught that if you wanted to be a complete martial artist you had to learn both an internal and an external form, and how to use a weapon. In addition you had to be knowledgeable in the areas of poetry, medicine, history, painting or calligraphy to be considered a complete martial artist. My teacher also had us study the classical works of tai chi and I began to understand the importance of learning something from the classical standpoint and to teach it that very same way.

When I started to learn more about acupuncture from the Occidental Institute, I soon came to realize that they taught a very classical form of acupuncture. The Chinese energetic system of acupuncture which is very precise, had rules and regulations that had been time-tested for hundreds of years. It became apparent that to be an “acupuncturist” would mean more than just sticking needles into a person’s body. To be considered as a truly accomplished acupuncturist one had to know something about nutrition, counseling, herbal medicine, how to make adjustments and massage the body. So I began to study other things like soft tissue adjustments, reflexology, massage, Manual Lymph Drainage (according to Dr. Vodder), etc.

I was introduced to the Mayr-Cure® program by the Occidental Institute in the early 1990’s and it opened an entirely new door for me. I had already been using the “Electroacupuncture of Dr. Voll” (EAV) approach and was fascinated by it. When I cannot help a person using basic acupuncture I turn to EAV to continue the treatment, and must tell you without bragging that my success rate since 1979 has been in the high 90 percent range.

Mayr-Cure® taught me something that I always wanted to learn but hadn’t found anyone to teach me, namely how to diagnose with my hands. I’d seen movies where the master physician would touch a person’s body and know what was wrong with that person internally. Here in America, I’ve had access to some of the top teachers of the martial arts because of the status of my tai chi teacher, but none of them could teach me that. Mayr-Cure® taught me how to use my hands!

The Mayr-Cure® Program

[translated from the German term “Mayr-Kur®”]

A fundamental objective of the Mayr-Cure® is detoxification of the body. One way we are able to accomplish this, is by orally administering an isotonic alkaline solution at body temperature, that can stimulate the small intestines to absorb more bile from the liver and gall bladder. Lacteals and intestinal lymphatics take up chyle, especially from the ileum. Products of digestion from the gastrointestinal tract which pass either into the blood or lymph enter the chyle cistern, and are carried to the thoracic duct where they are absorbed by the subclavian vein and enter the vascular system. (Note, mesenteric veins unite to form portal veins and carry such blood to the liver.)

Beyond its usual fat emulsification, putrefaction retarding and peristalsis increasing functions, bile is both an antiseptic as well as a purgative. In the body it can literally strip toxins off of the internal walls of the intestines and get into the villi “pockets” to clean them out. In the blood and traveling throughout the lymph system, bile is able to reach all parts of the body and perform a similar action at the joints, organs and other tissue structures, thus enabling an intense cleansing of the entire system.

After a person has gone through the Mayr-Cure® program a lot of the toxic build-up in the body has been eliminated. Then, after retesting the individual using the EAV method I find that fewer remedies are needed.

There is a cosmetic aspect to the Mayr-Cure® program. Not only is the person’s digestive system cleansed, but they will also have more vibrant energy, a more robust complexion and a balanced emotional state. Everyone should at some point in time go through the Mayr-Cure® procedure. When your digestive system is functioning properly your body is able to absorb nutrients more efficiently. Medicines whether they be allopathic or homeopathic will work more effectively, thus aiding the body in achieving the main result which is optimum health.

The old saying that “death lurks in the intestines”, is very real to me because this is where we absorb our nutrients. The more toxic burdens that are eliminated, the longer you will live and the better you will feel. It should be mandatory for everyone to occasionally do some type of cleansing, even though it may not be as extensive as the Mayr-Cure®. We can at the very least use herbal laxatives, enemas or colonic irri- gation to help reduce some of the massive toxic burden from all the pollutants in the air, water and food that we are exposed to every day.

The Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is six to seven times denser than the venous system, and therefore is able to contact a wide range of locations – almost everywhere in the body. The lymphatic system has been found to not only produce antibodies, but transport white blood cells and waste materials. In addition, vitamins, minerals and even deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) as contained in the nuclei of lymphocytes are transported throughout the entire system.

A big factor as far as maintaining lymph fluid flow through the body, is breathing. The lymph system does not have a pump like the heart that pumps blood throughout the body; it relies instead on your breathing and muscular movement, pulsation of arteries and peristaltic movement of the intestine. Sedentary habits nowadays help to make our system even more sluggish. We need to get outdoors; learn how to play again; and daily perform some activity that involves muscle movement.

I have noticed that most people do not know how to breathe correctly. When you learn the correct way of breathing you can greatly help your physical as well as emotional condition.

In general, the body moves one to two units of lymph fluid through the system every day with normal activity. Strenuous exercise may be able to move from three to as much as six or seven units of the fluid throughout the body. Manual Lymph Drainage can push from 40 to 60 units of lymph fluid throughout the body, stimulating the entire system and initiating a profound effect on the autonomic nervous system.

The late Dr. Ernst Kojer [a direct student of Dr. Mayr and very first authorized Mayr-Cure® instructor] once stated that acupuncture and Manual Lymph Drainage are two of the best adjunct therapies to use with Mayr-Cure® Therapy because they both help the body to naturally perform its function without force.
