Tinnitus and Naturopathic Therapy
Tinnitus can occur at any age. The adverse effects of tinnitus can be very different. Tinnitus is a symptom and can be caused by non-organic or organic causes.
Suddenly occurring persistent ringing in the ears (whistling, hissing, roaring, ringing, buzzing) is referred to as acute tinnitus. If the ringing in the ears persists for more than 3 months, it is called chronic tinnitus.
A distinction is made between subjective and objective tinnitus. Subjective tinnitus is the most common form. Subjective tinnitus is a disorder of acoustic perception. In objective tinnitus, the ringing in the ears originates from an actually existing sound source, e.g. from the body’s own flow noises (narrowed blood vessels).
Causes of Tinnitus
Stress, noise damage, sudden hearing loss, otosclerosis, acoustic neuroma, Meniere’s disease, circulatory disorders in the inner ear, foreign bodies (e.g. earwax plug), inflammation of the ear canal, middle ear or paranasal sinuses, age-related hearing loss.
Tinnitus triggers are, for example, mental illnesses (anxiety symptoms), muscle tension and hardening in the temporomandibular joint; Tension in the cervical spine, cardiovascular diseases and medication (e.g. blood pressure medication).
Diagnostics and Orthodox Medical Therapy
If the ringing in the ears does not go away after a day, you should consult a doctor (ENT). You should start acute treatment right away to prevent it from turning into a chronic form. It is therefore important to carry out an exact diagnosis (preliminary consultations, questionnaires, medical examinations, hearing measurements) in order to find the cause or trigger. Treatment depends on the underlying disease.
If the acute tinnitus is the result of sudden hearing loss, treatment is carried out with an infusion treatment (e.g. cortisone). The aim is to improve the supply of nutrients and oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBO) would also be another treatment approach. Pure oxygen is inhaled in an oxygen pressure chamber.
Once the tinnitus has turned into a chronic form, the focus is on helping the patient to deal better with the tinnitus in everyday life.
There are various therapeutic approaches: Noise therapy (hearing aids, sound generators); Tinnitus retraining therapy; Tinnitus Coping Therapy with Association Training
Naturopathic Therapy
Depending on the symptoms, medicinal plants and homeopathic remedies and other measures can be used in the naturopathic treatment options. Dosage and duration depend on the individual constitution, the symptoms and the medical history.
Phytotherapy
Preference is given to preparations of Ginkgo biloba in the form of tablets, e.g. Tebonin (they improve blood circulation in the brain) and medicinal plants with a sedative effect (valerian, hops, passion flower, St. John’s wort, e.g. in the form of tea blends or in the form of tablets, e.g. KyttaSedativum) or medicinal plants with a calming effect (lavender, lemon balm in the form of tea or in the form of tablets, e.g. Lasea Oil capsules).
Complex Homeopathy
Vertigoheel (= Anamirta cocculus/Indian fish berry; Conium maculatum/spotted hemlock; Ambra grisea/Grey Amber; Petroleum rectificatum/Petroleum)
Application:
- Inject 1 ampoule of Vertigoheel i.m., s.c., i.c. or i.v. daily;
- Chronic form Inject 1 ampoule i.m., s.c., i.c. or i.v. 1 to 3 times a week;
- Oral therapy: 3x 1 to 3x 3 tablets over a longer period of time.
- In combination with Circulo-lnjeel N ampoules (Argentum metallicum, Acidum arsenicosum, Barium iodatum, Calcium carbonicum Hahnemanni, Solanum nigrum, Nicotiana tabacum, Secale cornutum) 2x weekly 1 ampoule iv, i.m., s.c.
Acupressure
Acupressure is based on the same theory as acupuncture and uses (finger) pressure massage for stimulation. For tinnitus, the point CV 24 (Cheng Jiang) is used.
Location: In the middle of the lower jaw, in the depression below the lower lip on the chin
Acupressure technique
The acupressure point CV 24 is pressed firmly with the fingernail in small circles. Open your mouth wide and breathe as if you wanted to yawn. Repeat this procedure every 3-5-10 minutes.
Acupuncture
In the case of tinnitus, acupuncture is particularly effective if there is severe tension in the cervical spine area or cervical syndrome.
Body Therapies
Neurofeedback (training of brain waves: “Alpha Training”); Biofeedback (e.g. for muscle tension in the shoulders, forehead, jaw area), attention distraction, relaxation (progressive muscle relaxation, autogenic training, abdominal breathing training, hypnosis; Mindfulness and Mindfulness Meditation)
Body therapies have an effect on the entire body sensation. Relaxation is in the foreground.
Manual therapies
Osteopathy, craniosacral therapy and physiotherapy can in any case support tinnitus treatment as holistic manual forms of treatment.
Nutrition
A good diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables; few “convenience” products and highly processed foods; Avoid sugar, eat little fat; drink plenty of fluids (water or tea, no juices and sodas).
