Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Holidays, and winter illnesses, and the opportunity to get together with friends and family. It’s difficult to get back into the New Year routine, but exciting to look forward to another year of workshops, activities and research into our field.

My report on the big A4M conference in Las Vegas is simple and one word: disappointing. Vegas is no longer “cheap” but rather exorbitantly expensive (even for food court meals) and the travel (even though winter had not yet struck in force) was challenging. To be fair, A4M has reverted to their roots: chemistry and cosmetics (mostly coverup procedures). It is their thing, and they now seem to also be moving into the psychedelics – argh – just not topics of interest for me. The trade fair aspect is as big as ever and did include a few aspects of interest to us, but none that were within range of my recommendations. And so it goes – next year I’ll stay home before Christmas!

In that light, I do want to mention that I would still (or alternately) highly recommend the TFIM conference. During the pandemic years when I was able to participate online for this conference, it was a fantastic series of lectures and presenters. This year, the conference is only in-person and sadly (as that still supposedly retired person) I simply cannot afford another trip all the way to Texas (with winter air travel at the end of February – brr!). But, for next year this will definitely be my go to conference.

I’ve managed to put together two more translations for this month (see links below), and a personal message in my New Year’s commentary. Here are the announcements, conference dates and newsletter items of this month.

Here are the links for this month’s articles and commentaries:

  • Immune System – News from Science, New Insights into Basics, Diseases and Therapy, by Michael Petersen, HP. T cells can go into a state of exhaustion. But there is an important reason for this. Additionally: scientists have found possible causes of severe COVID-19 courses. And: how vitamin D3 can be helpful for allergic asthma. These and much more are the topics of the scientific overview of the immune system. Read more here.
  • Biofactors in Cancer, What They Can Do, by rer.nat. Daniela Birkelbach. Many tumor patients suffer from food aversions, taste and digestive disorders and can therefore fall into malnutrition. The targeted use of individual, scientifically tested biofactors as approved drugs can complement and support oncological therapy. Read more here.
