I’ve watched with interest – and a dose of horror – as the vaccination controversy has once again exploded in our province of British Columbia, Canada. As of this morning there are 15 “new” cases of measles diagnosed and reported here. I wonder how many of those ill children were previously vaccinated, but so far no one has answered that part of the equation.
Within just a week’s time, the news is flooded with reports of 10’s of thousands of anxious parents signing petitions demanding mandatory inoculations. Our provincial government is tabling legislation that would require parents to provide certified documentation that their child has been vaccinated before they can register to attend school. Orthodox physicians are appearing on TV and in the news stating that Naturopaths are . . . (long pause searching for diplomatic way to say “quacks”) . . . and should not be telling parents to avoid vaccinations.
And already, we hear the orthodox reflexive fear responses like: Homeopathy is silly, unfounded and does not work; or, that Naturopaths and most alternative health care practitioners are untrained, have not studied the research and do not understand basic science. These “untrained people” claim there’s mercury in vaccinations and that of course is “just not true” because Thiomersal has been removed from children’s vaccinations years ago. And on and on they prattle and rant.
But the question that arises for us as complementary or integrative practitioners is which of these battles should we take on, which should we just ignore, or which must we simply deal with in a way that will help both the parents and their children?
As individuals, can we really take on a battle to fight big pharma as they manufacture millions of doses of vaccines (be it MMR or flu), and then “re-purpose” them to other countries or illnesses after they over-flood the market here? There are numerous organizations who are standing strong and loud in this battle, and it’s a battle that desperately needs to be fought.
As for ignoring any part of this controversy, that’s just not my nature nor my ethical choice – nor is it yours I am sure. We know that homeopathy works, and that acupuncture works, and that energy medicine works. I cannot ignore the kinds of statements made by orthodox physicians posturing to defend their position of power – and funding. But that brings us back to the choice about which battles we can fight. There is solid, acceptable evidence and research developed over the decades since WW II to support that vaccinations have not successfully eradicated these diseases, and that there are multiple serious side-effects. Homeopathy has been used for 250 years – and it’s still controversial because the concept of energy medicine has never been incorporated or accepted by orthodox medicine. Can I possibly win these battles myself within the scope of today’s controversies?
How can the parent or patient make any kind of choice in light of the onslaught of information from both sides, especially when Big Pharma and orthodox physicians hold the power? And what of the parents? Who should they believe? Who should they turn to with their questions? And trust me “googling it” only confuses the issue even more.
We cannot expect parents to be able to make the same decision or choice that we would from our perspective of energy/natural medicine, when it then also involves how their child will be educated. The decision to vaccinate or not to vaccinate is life altering. Do you choose to avoid vaccinations, treat the childhood illnesses naturally and then home or private school the child? Or, do you choose to vaccinate, pray for no vaccination side-effects and send the child to regular school?
For this and many reasons, I see our role in this mess, not so much as crusaders against the powers that be (that’s almost always a no-win situation), but rather to be quietly available for parents and patients with alternatives and support and calmly presented information. We need to offer that support regardless of their choice.
For those parents who make that huge decision not to vaccinate:
The choice for when and how the child will be educated is then also theirs to make. In some states and provinces, public education options are still available. There are also some organizations and practitioners who will use homeopathy as an inoculation and offer “certification” for the parent. (That practice also remains very controversial and, in many cases, is unacceptable for school registrations.)

When or if the childhood disease is then contracted – in the midst of today’s controversy I’ll talk about measles – let’s look at the possibilities. I quote from several sources:
Measles is a serious respiratory disease (in the lungs and breathing tubes) that causes a rash and fever. It is very contagious. In rare cases, it can be deadly.
The rash usually lasts for three to five days and then fades away. In uncomplicated cases, people who get measles start to recover as soon as the rash appears and feel back to normal in about two to three weeks. But up to 40 percent of patients have complications from the virus.
[Sorry I can’t let that one pass. Really? 40%? Maybe your treatment methods aren’t working??!! CLW]
One out of every 1,000 measles cases progresses to acute encephalitis, which often results in permanent brain damage. One or two out of every 1,000 children who become infected with measles will die from respiratory and neurological complications.
So, we have a viral, respiratory disease. How does orthodox medicine treat this? Well, maybe this is why they are so fearful about this common but often serious childhood disease (and why we see so many complications). Firstly, it’s a virus, and then secondly, it’s a respiratory disease. What does your physician recommend?
- Post-exposure vaccination within 72 hours
- Immune serum globulin within 6 days for pregnant women, infants and people with weakened immune system
- Fever reducers
- Acetaminophen to relieve fever and muscle aches.
- Antibiotics for bacterial infection such as pneumonia or ear infection
- Plenty of fluids (six to eight glasses of water a day)
- Humidifier to ease a cough and sore throat.
- Vitamin A supplements.
In essence drive out the fever, suppress the itch and drink water. Argh! You are natural practitioners and you know – probably better than I – that we need the fever to “burn up” the invading virus and that by suppressing the itch (the symptom, the very method the body is using to try to eliminate the toxins) you simply drive it deeper. Wouldn’t it be better to treat the respiratory distress and add support for the other symptoms?
Natural remedies/treatment for alleviating the Common Symptoms of Measles (According to Dr. Mercola):
- Stay home and rest
- Rest your eyes
- Seek respiratory relief (humidifier or vaporizer)
- Drink plenty of fluids (water, herbal teas, orange and lemon juice for Vit. C)
- Barley (antioxidants)
- Licorice root (antiviral)
- Tumeric (antiseptic and antioxidant)
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin C

For those parents who do choose to get the vaccinations
The choice for when and how the child will be educated can no longer be used as leverage against the parent who can then enroll the child in school as normal.
If the child becomes ill with measles, then treat as above – as naturally as possible. As a result of the vaccine, there will hopefully be fewer complications, and the disease should resolve in a regular fashion. From that point forward the child should definitely be immune!
On the other hand, should the child develop side-effects or complications (as discussed in-depth from many sources), then it is up to us to step in and offer support and resolution for the child.
For practitioners with Classical BioResonance Therapy capability:
- Ideally, the parent can obtain the container or vial that held the vaccine (without syringe of course). Place the container into the input of your BioResonance device and treat both as an allergen and as an intoxication. Many practitioners will also test and treat for heavy metals.
- With complications, treat:
- By Symptom (respiratory complications such as pneumonia, treat accordingly) at the same time you continue clearing the measles
- With Basic Therapy for Acute Intoxication
- With Basic Therapy according to Dr. Herrmann
- Allergy programs
- For older patients, include Energy Circulation Lung (situation -itis) #179
- For older patients, applications through the Cornelissen method
For practitioners using EAV, VEGA or other point and medication testing procedures:
- Test Morbillinum with standard testing procedures for nosodes (either actual homeopathic remedy or high-quality electronic homeopathy frequencies).
- All treatment remedies and supplements should also be tested for dosage, tolerance and compatibility.
Combined with your own standard assessment and therapy procedures, this type of “protocol” can be used for all types of vaccinations in conjunction with applicable nosodes, remedies and supplements.
All indications, from changes to global certification procedures for medical devices down to the decreased availability of natural remedies and herbs, are that we are moving into another cycle or era of restrictions and persecution for natural and complementary medicine – perhaps an era of realignment of power and funding. During this phase of development and transition, is it wiser to fight the big battles loudly and bring heavy censure and attention onto our heads, or is it wiser to pick our battles and quietly remain available to our patients and their children?
I remind you of the historical information recited to us by Dr. John Wilson in regard to the changes in the Medical Practice Act in North Carolina. Here, he boldly reminded us of the words of Thomas Jefferson, that “the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”
