All over the world there seems to be a growing interest to expand traditional medical services to an integrative medical approach. There is great demand pushing up from patients while physicians are increasingly pushing down to meet their patients’ expectations to getting and staying well with means stretching beyond the boundaries of standard care. It would behoove the physician of the future to embrace additional philosophies going beyond their initial medical education & training to advance and improve patients’ health care to live and age healthy.

There is significant interest from physicians worldwide to expand their medical services to include cutting edge treatment solutions going beyond standard care. Several key reasons push Integrative Medicine to become more center stage: 1) physicians’ own drive seeking better therapeutic solutions with fewer side effects, 2) increasing demand by their patients, 3) sustaining or building a cash-based practice.

The audience of the Occidental Institute Research Foundation is unique since it has pioneered the field of Biological Medicine by its founding father Dr. Walter Sturm for over forty years. Way ahead of his time, he already had the vision to connect the German advancement of biological medicine with unique and empirical methods or technologies and make them available to initially the North American continent.  OIRF’s affiliated colleagues and supporters have truly been pioneers in the field of Biological Medicine, while at the same time, the United States of America went through a progressive adaption of what was first called Alternative Medicine, then Functional Medicine and finally, the terminology settled into Integrative Medicine on a global basis.  You may find it interesting to learn that the driving force behind the Integrative Medicine establishment was primarily made up of medical physicians, often leaders of regular medicine. These pioneering physicians made it their business to create the infrastructure by founding schools expanding into all 50 states and instituting state licensing to legally practice one or more forms of Integrative Medicine. The starting point of back then called Alternative Medicine encompassed only acupuncture back in the eighties for which the educational and legal structure was implemented quite rapidly.

According to the U.S. National Center for Complimentary & Integrative Medicine, a branch of the U.S. FDA’s National Institute of Health (NIH), Integrative Medicine stresses the relationship between the patient and the practitioner focusing on the whole person.

Germany is quite unique and ahead of the curve in its legal availability to the public of alternative, complimentary, and integrative medicine approaches. In a National Survey completed in 2010 it was found that more than 55% of Family Practitioners use one or more forms of integrative medicine in their daily practice while more than two thirds of German patients seek Complementary and Alternative medicine provided by physicians or licensed non-medical practitioners called “Heilpraktiker”.

Over the years, I have worked with physicians and patients from all over the world; whether at my practice in Germany, my office in New York, at their local hospital, private clinic or private home, by phone, email, texting, or by skype. Traveling to the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, China, Korea, Australia, all over Europe, and North and South America, opened my eyes and widened my experience exponentially.   This sort of “medical travel” allows you to get to know a culture from a different perspective. Not as a distanced tourist, but getting right to the heart of taking part in pain and suffering and available diagnostic and treatment options in their respective country and culture. You will realize that what you thought you knew about nutrition in the West may not at all apply to the people in the East. The same goes for the people living in the South compared to living in the North of the planet. What a realization!

Quietly I observed my colleagues and patients in their dance of talking, listening, touching and expressing their emotions during their medical intervention. Humbly, I went about my way of teaching along with assessing the patient’s health situation and my multi-faceted treatment approach in which the ONDAMED is my main instrument for both obtaining a diagnostic perspective of the patient’s entire life health journey and offering treatment in a focused and personalized way.

At my Institute for Personalized Medicine in Southern Germany, I offer 2-week Intensive Healing Retreats besides my regular practice activity to my patients who come from the local villages and beyond stretching across country borders. I came to the realization that patients traveling from far, needed at least 2 full weeks of my Personalized Integrative treatment approach in order to: 1) stabilize and 2) build their health, and 3) eventually at home and overtime maintain and prevent their newly found health.

My Integrative Personalized Medicine approach includes the use of many different philosophies and treatment modalities:

The definitions of each category are briefly defined in the following article and represent my personal opinions or that of the listed references. Part 1 will cover the first nine categories and you can watch for Part 2 in coming Issues of “The Bridge” covering the remaining six categories.

Intuition

Merriam Webster defines Intuition as “a natural ability or power that makes it possible to know something without any proof or evidence: a feeling that guides a person to act a certain way without fully understanding why”.

Some years ago the term The Wisdom Of The Moment came into my mind; this may possibly be an accurate description of the source from where we access information or from where information reaches us.

When I get asked what I believe is the best tool in therapeutics, it is without hesitation that I answer „it is our intuition“. It sits deeply within all of us. Every single human being on this earth is equipped with this powerful sensor, which could possibly be the connection between our human bodies, emotions, spirits, and souls with the universal spirit, often referred to as God.

But how do we know it is real? How do we know to embrace this inner messenger? How do we even know to trust this inner voice, or the picture which suddenly appears, or this unique feeling we experience? Once we have recognized our intuitive self, how do we develop it? How do we nurture it?

ONDAMED has helped me a great deal detoxifying physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Of course, I had the advantage of being clinically dead five times at the age of 15 and coming back from the tunnel and having walked through the light, my life suddenly became very clear to me.

Continue or start using this innate knowing by allowing yourself to tap into the Wisdom of the Moment without judgement and trusting in the truth of the bigger knowing.

ONDAMED

The ONDAMED Technology is a combination of focused electromagnetic field stimulation and Biofeedback. The therapy can be used with standard programs and in a very simple way for acute issues such as pain relief, wound healing, and soft tissue injuries.

The brilliance, however, lays in the use of the patient’s autonomic nervous system with its Biofeedback methodology tapping into the “truth of the patient” which the therapist uses to be guided for selecting the most significant frequencies and programs for the patient. Once the stimulus is set, which takes only a minute, the therapist uses a Handheld Applicator to scan the patient’s body to find reactions areas which potentially are the root problems to the patient’s symptoms and disease processes including areas of inflammation, infection, scar tissue, and unresolved emotional shock and trauma residing as cellular memory somewhere on the body.

The ONDAMED offers us a diagnostic perspective enhancing standard available diagnostics and even more important, a treatment solution for acute and chronic disease with its 4 different modules:

The ONDAMED method recognizes the human being’s aspects of spiritual, emotional, mental and physiological levels.

Nutrition

Patients need to be educated as to their choices and decisions of their daily nutritional intake. The right nutrition is an absolute necessary element to living a healthy life. The physician cannot and should not own this task; it must be the patients who own the responsibility of aware food and drink choices with which they nourish their bodies.

Therefore, our patients need a very simple platform of nutritional guidance which they can integrate into daily living by replacing their shopping habits with better ones. I find it important that patients are set free and able to obtain most of their nutritional intake within their own community without having to depend on specialty stores or internet shopping.

An important link to valuable life nutrition is the respect for one’s heritage, let’s call it „the ancestor’s soil principle“. If the patient’s roots go back to “dark earth” living, then it may be most ideal to stay to the harvest of dark earth; the same goes for “white earth” background. In other words, if our intestinal tract has been accustomed to “rice and tea” over many generations, the innate acceptance of nutrients shall be respected and ideally, one should stay within the framework of “rice and tea” and not replace or overindulge with breads and alcohol. (Ref: Tissue Cleansing through bowel management by B. Jensen)

As I said before, the nutritional education must stay simple in order for our patients to easily transition and put into action better nutritional habits for them and their families.

Here is my Nutrition-For-Life Guidance:

No to the 3 “Whites” for a period of time until patients stabilize, then less of:

  • Sugar and sugar related foods
  • Wheat and wheat related foods (breads)
  • Cow milk and milk related products (except for raw milk)

Keep in mind you may replace

  • Sugar with Xylitol or small amounts of raw sugar
  • Cow milk and cheese with goat and sheep milk and cheese; (Yes to butter!)
  • Wheat products with whole grains

Say Yes to (remember “the ancestor soil” principle):

  1. 5-2 liters still water (without chlorine and fluorides)
  2. Fats such as
    • Butter (no margarine)
    • Coconut oil (for cooking)
    • Virgin cold pressed Olive oil (ideally for salads; do not use for frying)
    • Grapeseed oil for frying
    • Daily supplementation of 1 Tbsp Flaxseed Oil with 1 Tsp Grapeseed Oil
(Ref: Brian Peskin “The Hidden Story of Cancer”)
  3. Add high quality salt to your daily diet such as Himalayan or Sea Salt
  4. Eggs (Ref: “The Cholesterol Myth”)
  5. Coconut Milk for cooking
  6. Raw and lightly steamed vegetables of all sorts of colors
  7. Raw onions and garlic!
  8. Fruits of all sorts of colors
  9. A variety of available nuts
  10. Chocolate with > 80% cocoa content
  11. Legumes
  12. Soup broth with marrow bones
  13. Couscous, rice, bulgur

Add a wholesome probiotic to your daily diet, such as:

  • Sauerkraut Juice on an empty stomach
  • Kefir on an empty stomach

Regular Fasting allows our organs to rest! You may choose fasting from the time you go to sleep at night until noon of the next day or fast for an entire day to week with lots of water and rest.

Homeopathy

In the 18th Century Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, discovered that “like cures like”, when he ingested bark substance (Cinchona) from South America which was said to cure malaria-related intermittent fevers. While he himself had not contracted malaria, when taking a larger dose of the substance, he in turn induced malaria like symptoms in himself, which led him to the idea “that which can produce a set of symptoms in a healthy individual, can treat a sick individual who is manifesting a similar set of symptoms.”

This experience birthed the idea of a new philosophy called homeopathy. Often it is the information, a form of energy, related to the substance, not necessarily the substance itself that aids in the healing process. Homeopathic remedies are diluted at different levels to stimulate physiologically, emotionally, or spiritually.

HRT(h): For most of my patients I recommend they take hormone replacement therapy but instead of biological hormones the remedies I prescribe are all homeopathy based. Besides the most essential hormone replacement progesterone in D4 as DMS (dermal-membrane-structure), patients may benefit from yams root, DHEA, cortisonum, melatonin, testosterone, and more.

Lifestyle Coaching

Get to know your patients and help them realize toxic and “dead end” patterns leading you to suggest their honest review and improvements on an overall life perspective including their jobs, relationships with their partners, parents, children, friends, animals, and more, as well as their hobbies, educational paths, daily routines and especially their own sense of who they are and what they wish to become. From there you develop a strategy with your patients of steps to obtain their goal and live more of their potential leading to increased happiness, wellness, and capabilities.

Remind patients to enjoy their human experience by doing human things. Encourage them to go into nature bringing in the elements of the earth; such as the sun, wind, rain, fields, trees, flowers, bushes, water, soil, sand, animals, and so many more elements that are always available. Nature is a great distressor and its power affects us even more when we move in it, whether this is walking, hiking, biking, rowing, climbing, swimming, etc. Negatively charged ions are abundantly available in lightening, ocean surf, waterfalls, mountains, and forests (all plants give off ions).

Yes, exercise is an important element of getting and staying well. An 8-minute cardio workout on a treadmill 3-5 times per week has been scientifically proven to make a huge difference to someone’s cardiac health; equally aerobic exercise for 30 minutes per day (ideally in nature) 3-5 times per week has shown significant improvement to cardiac health (Ref: Dean Ornish, MD).

Help yourself and your patients finding joy in your life by adding happy healthy moments to everyday life!

Family Constellations (Hellinger)

Bert Hellinger was born in 1925 in Germany. He studied theology and pedagogy. For 16 years he worked as a missionary with the Zulus in South Africa where he started his observation and studying the influences of group dynamics. He continued his path as psychoanalyst and completed various studies including “transactions analysis”, “Erickson’s Hynotherapy”, and “Neurolistic Programming”.

Over the years he developed his own unique method called “family constellations” which is known throughout the world and used by medical practitioners, psycho therapists, as well as in organization & corporate coaching.

Bert Hellinger wrote over 100 books which were translated into 40 languages.

What are Family Constellations?

“Children seldom or never dare to live a happier or more fulfilling life than their parents. Unconsciously they remain loyal to unspoken family traditions that work invisibly. Family Constellations are a way of discovering underlying family bonds and forces that have been carried unconsciously over several generations.” Bertold Ulsamer

A Family Constellation is a three-dimensional group process that has the power to shift generations of suffering and unhappiness. Bert Hellinger, the founder of this work, who studied and treated families for more than 50 years, observed that many of us unconsciously “take on” destructive familial patterns of anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, aloneness, alcoholism and even illness as a way of “belonging” in our families. Bonded by a deep love, a child will often sacrifice his own best interests in a vain attempt to ease the suffering of a parent or other family member.

Family Constellations allow us to break these patterns so that we can live healthier, happier, more fulfilled lives. In a moment of insight, a new life course can be set in motion. The results can be life-changing. Ref: http://www.hellingerpa.com/

I have found Hellinger’s work to be an invaluable therapeutic augmentation to ONDAMED. In the hands of skilled therapists, a „Family Constellation“ session allows individuals to become witness to hidden emotional patterns discovering burdens of guilt, emotional pain, fear, etc. These unknown patterns do not belong to these individuals and need to be released back to the ones who created and own these patterns. This will set the individuals free to transform into more powerful human beings who may live their lives to their greatest potential.

Environmental Stress

With increased stress within and around the environment in which we live, we must develop strategies of how to deal with such stress factors in the most responsible easy-to-accomplish ways.

It is important we bring to the attention of our patients an increased awareness of self-created environmental stresses including:

  • Wireless phones, computers, notebooks, gaming stations etc. in the home environment
  • Electrical pollution from power outlets
  • Electrical transmission towers and cell phone towers
  • The way we handle cell phones during the day and night
  • Geopathic stress
    • Relating to the theory that natural irregularities in the earth’s magnetic field can be intensified by power lines, underground pipelines, and other natural and man-made features such that a stress field harmful to human health and well-being is created.
  • Battery operated equipment and toys
  • Underground watercourse
  • Daily earthing: the easiest therapy on the planet! Take off your shoes and connect with earth with your bare feet to reduce access energy by bringing in negative charged ions. Negative ions are oxygen atoms with an extra electron and they can make you feel better.

Emotional Shock & Trauma (Hamer)

Ryke Geerd Hamer is the founder of The German New Medicine. For those of you not familiar with his work, here is the introduction for you copied from his website www.newmedicine.ca/

Introduction to Dr. Hamer’s Germanic/German New Medicine

That there is a connection between the psyche and disease is neither a new discovery, nor is it Dr. Hamer’s discovery. To quote Dr. Hamer:

Through the millennia, humanity has more or less consciously known that all diseases ultimately have a psychic origin and it became a “scientific” asset firmly anchored in the inheritance of universal knowledge; it is only modern medicine that has turned our animated beings into a bag full of chemical formulas.”

Welcome to Dr. Hamer’s page on The German New Medicine.

If this is your first visit, the following will serve as a short introduction:

Twenty years ago, Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer, a German doctor with his own practice in Rome, Italy, received a call in the middle of the night. His 17-year old son had been shot while on holiday in the Mediterranean. Three months later, Dirk died and shortly after, Dr. Hamer, who had been healthy all his life, but who was utterly devastated by this catastrophe, found he had testicular cancer. Rather suspicious about this coincidence, he set about doing research on the personal histories of cancer patients to see whether they had suffered some shock, distress or trauma before their illness.

In time, after extensive research of thousands of patients, Dr. Hamer was finally able to conclude that disease is only brought about by a shock for which we are totally unprepared. This last point is very important. If we can in any way be prepared for the shocking event, we will not become ill. In fact, Dr. Hamer does not like to say ‘cancer’. Rather, it is a special biological response to an unusual situation, and when the ‘shock’ situation is resolved, the body sets about returning to normality. This is a very simplified account, of course. The books explain in detail the complete process.

He presented his work to the university in Germany with which he was affiliated. Without testing or proving his hypothesis, they asked him to deny his findings. Since he could not possibly contemplate denying what he had scientifically proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, he refused. As a result, his licence to practise medicine was withdrawn and the situation remains unchanged to this day. Even though the University of Tubingen was ordered by a court of law to hold tests to prove the theories, they have never done so.

Dr. Hamer’s life has been a turmoil of events ever since, culminating in an eighteen-month prison sentence in Germany, served in cells with common criminals. Much of the opposition he has had to face has come from the fact that the person who accidentally killed Dirk was the Prince of Savoy, the last King of Italy’s son. A complicated, difficult and delicate situation, as anyone can imagine.

Dr. Hamer believes very strongly that the present methods of dealing with cancer are barbarous, cruel and completely unnecessary. This opinion does not make him many friends.

Since the discovery of the German New Medicine in 1981, Dr. Hamer has written several books on his medicine and his extraordinary findings. Some of the books have already been translated into several languages, and the work continues. Many physicians in Europe covertly practise his medicine, recognizing its exceptional diagnostic capability.

The lack of official recognition by “official” or “conventional” medicine is frustrating for both Dr. Hamer and for the public. We can only hope that the movement to change the status quo will come from the people who start to understand the way their bodies work and from insisting that their physicians, health care workers and institutions take notice.

The tireless work done by the ever-increasing alternative therapies and books such as written by Deepak Chopra and Dr. Andrew Weil, have contributed enormously to the shift in consciousness we see in the world, to the point where doctors and hospitals are sitting up and taking notice.

But once you have heard Dr. Hamer lecture or seen him at a seminar, read his books and had access to his Disease Chart, you understand that finally someone has made all the links, found all those connections that were missing.

Ending of Introduction from website.

In my work with patients, I always reference Dr. Hamer’s connections from unresolved shock/trauma to the corresponding organs or physiological expressions of cancers, tumors or other chronic diseases. All I have to do is gently confront my patient with the information of the potential correlation between my patient’s diagnosis and the unresolved emotional shock or trauma. This allows me to help the patient remember and connect the dots to their life story and memory of such unresolved emotional shock/trauma which is still stored on a cellular level. Of course, I add the ONDAMED Technology to my treatment approach, and with help of the patient’s autonomic nervous system via the biofeedback loop, I scan the body with the handheld applicator isolating areas on the patient’s body which include inflammation, infections, scars, but also unresolved emotional shock and trauma residing on a cellular level. Once these areas are found, additional applicators (in total 4) are then placed to these areas on the body in most need of therapeutic stimulus. It often happens that within minutes, the patient starts to remember something from the past and talks about this long forgotten story while possibly crying, laughing, or sweating as the patient starts to “detoxify” their emotional pain. ONDAMED’s focused electromagnetic fields communicate with the patient’s cellular communication network providing frequencies which are most needed for the patient’s healing at the time of the treatment by vibrating cells from within cells and tissue aiding in the “shaking things up” process, and often, thereby releasing a long forgotten yet stored memory. As always, the patient has a choice of how to interact with this memory; looking at the memory from today’s perspective may already shift the patient’s view on the shock/trauma, or hold on to the memory and hover on it by giving it time to develop, or talk about it, cry or laugh hysterically, and in some cases, patients may release their memory right then and there as I confront them. I have observed transformational shifts in my patients and it is a miracle to witness. Ideally, you use your intuition, a gentle approach from the heart when confronting your patient, listening, talking and touching, while also using methods such as ONDAMED, homeopathy and Bach Flowers.

List of emotional connections between tumors manifestations and physiological areas:

The conflicts for some other diseases are as follows:

  • Diabetes and hypoglycemia: A right-handed female develops hypoglycemia from anxiety and revulsion, if left handed she develops insulin-dependent diabetes. A right-handed male develops insulin-diabetes from a conflict of resisting or struggling against something, if left-handed he develops hypoglycemia.
  • Heart infarct: fight for territory or its content.
  • Hemorrhoids: both, a right-handed woman with an identity conflict and also a left-handed man with territorial anger in the healing phase will get hemorrhoids.
  • Multiple sclerosis and Paralysis: inability to escape or continue on or to hold on to or not knowing what to do.
  • Facial paralysis: fear of losing face, having been made a laughing stock.
  • Psoriasis involves separation conflict concerning mother, father, family, home, friends or pets.
  • Psychoses of all kinds have one or more active Hamer Herds in each of the two parts of the brain.
  • Vitiligo, Leukoderma: ugly or brutal separation conflict.
  • In regard to AIDS Dr Hamer observes that no one ever died of AIDS without having previously been told that they are HIV positive or believe that they are. The implication is that just as with cancer, it is the negative perception associated with AIDS that causes its devastating effect.

Epigenetics (Lipton)

Even thought is energy. Thought is an organized field of energy composed of complex patterns of vibrations which consolidate information. Thoughts are events in the mind field that are available not only to the consciousness of the creator, but also to other minds. Here is where a new thought leader comes in with philosophy confirming Valerie Hunt’s perspective: Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. a cell biologist who revolutionizes the DNA theory and helps give hope to physicians and patients alike with his ground-breaking concept that it is not the DNA that controls our biology. DNA is controlled by extra-cellular signals, including energetic messages such as thought and belief. Messages can also be signaled by sophisticated instruments which gently and in a focused way tap into the communication pathways of our cells and help stimulate repair and regeneration on a cellular level (ONDAMED).

“Quantum physics discovered that physical atoms are made up of vortices of energy that are constantly spinning and vibrating: each atom is like a wobbly spinning top that radiates energy. Because each atom has its own specific energy signature (wobble), assemblies of atoms (molecules) collectively radiate their own identifying energy patterns. So every material structure in the universe, including you and me, radiates a unique energy signature.”
